Scenes From An Imaginary Western

My art, My Stories

There Can Only Be One…’Painting of the Day’ (Wednesday edition) June 1, 2011

Good morning people! It’s Wednesday, the 1st day of June. If you are in Texas, it’s probably already 95 degrees. Here in New Mexico it’s about 70 with a high of 85. That’s not too bad for summer. The past few nights it’s been downright chilly, in fact. Well, anyway, here’s another Confidence Man painting. It’s from the story arc featuring the Navigator. An older post on this blog showed the CM and the Navigator propositioning a pilot. In that painting, the Confidence Man was squatting down like Robert Duvall in ‘Apocalypse Now’. This is part two. Obviously, the plane went down. The pilot is nowhere to be found and our hero has procured a horse and is doing his best to tame it amidst the flames. The inscrutable Navigator stands off to the side doing his best Max Von Sydow impression. Quite a pair. Have a great one everybody!

Holidays in the Sun, and…the Painting of the Day! (Thursday edition) May 5, 2011

Well, hello. Here’s another Confidence Man painting. This one features the CM and his guide through the Netherworld: the Navigator. The Navigator carries the briefcase. Sometimes it has glowing blobs of light coming out of it. Sometimes it’s just a briefcase. He’s not just any guide, though. He’s a guide through shifting planes of existence. Or something. Each painting in this story arc is a different color to emphasize that shift to another plane. I got the idea for his character while listening to the Pogues. I based him on Max Von Sydow’s silhouette on the original poster for the Exorcist. Weird. Spooky.
