Scenes From An Imaginary Western

My art, My Stories

The Arcade Fire love…’The Painting of the Day’ (Wednesday edition) June 22, 2011

Good morning! Today I have another painting from the ‘Fallow Ground’ series. It’s the biggest painting (I think) in the whole series, and one of the largest pieces I’ve ever done. I won’t go into all the symbolism I’ve loaded this thing down with, but I will say that I had a specific goal in mind when I started the piece: to make something that was so busy that it was difficult to look at. Seems like a strange goal, but I was listening to ‘Trout Mask Replica’ (Captain Beefheart and His Magic Band) a lot at the time so, you know…it just seemed like the right thing to do. I think I succeeded, at least a little. Have a great one!

I Don’t Want a Holiday in the Sun, I Just Want My ‘Painting of the Day’ (Wednesday edition) June 15, 2011

Hey people! I’ve got another ‘Fallow Ground’ painting for you today. It’s called ‘Interstellar Overdrive’ (that’s right, the Pink Floyd song), and I think it’s pretty danged funny. I can’t tell you exactly what the piece means, but the phrase ‘Let the Good Times Roll’ is on the left hand panel and  it’s scrambled. That means something damnit! Have a swell day!

Hey Look At Me! I’m Holding the ‘Painting of the Day’! (Tuesday edition) June 14, 2011

Good Morning folks! I have another painting from the ‘Fallow Ground’ series for you today. It’s a big one, and it’s about my grandfather who was an airplane mechanic during World War II. The pin-up in the middle panel is the precursor to the girl who would haunt the ‘Confidence Man’ series. Those planes on the right are an aerial view of the airplane graveyard. The house…well, the house is just on fire. Have a great one!
